Vessel Control Unit (VCU)

The VCU unit is an integrated device that is designed specifically to provide control for ships featuring electric outboard or inboard engines. The VCU can be installed and connected with other existing onboard equipment, including throttle, GPS navigation and battery controller.

It provides the following features out-of-the box:

  • Support of a single or twin-engine setup.
  • Support of a single or dual helm stations.
  • Integration with battery controllers to read the remaining capacity of the battery and control charging.
  • Intelligent estimation of range and remaining operating hours.
  • Integration with engine tilt/trim systems (outboard engines only).
  • Intelligent profiles for optimization of the driving experience, including:
    • High power mode;
    • Cruise mode;
    • Efficient (ECO) mode for maximum range;
    • No wake / harbour mode;
    • Limp mode.
  • Advanced temperature management and emergency features. Multi-layer redundancy.
  • Seamless integration with existing Garmin navigation units to enable display of drivetrain and battery status information on a single screen.
  • Basic logging and reporting.

Intelligent Control Unit

EcoSys’ Intelligent Control Unit (ICU) includes additional modules and software, that integrates with EcoSys’ VCU units, ancillary vessel equipment and sensors to provide the following functions:

  • Advanced AI-based range estimations, efficiency management, tilt / propeller angle and speed control based on multiple factors including integration with GPS for route and position as well as sensors for tracking external conditions such as temperature, wind and waves.
  • AI-based coordinated control of multiple engines and thrusters engines to seamlessly position and orientate the vessel during critical at sea operations and docking.
  • Management of hydrogen electric energy systems.
  • Advanced logging and reporting.
  • Mobile app to view the status of the ship propulsion system, battery, control and schedule charging and other functions.
